This is the eighth in a series of articles that explain the meaning of Jesus’ parables in terms of the parabolic imagery and Hebrew idioms the Prophets used. The first seven articles appeared in the January 1998, October 1998, October 2003, October 2004, January 2005, October 2007, and January 2008 issues. It explains several things related to the parabolic image of the “tree” or “vine” Jesus used in His parables to depict Himself as Corporate Israel—the Living Word of God.
The purpose of this column is to explain various weather-related parabolic images that relate to the Last Days and the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. The “forecast” in this edition comments on the times of “distress” the Prophet Daniel said would come before the End.
The first answer explains why the Truth of The Teaching is intended for personal “consumption” only. The second talks about the reasons why the author writes with so much sarcasm. The third points out the dangers of studying the Scriptures in translation. In the fourth he refuses to engage in a meaningless discussion with an individual who thinks she knows what God is doing with His Church in these Last Days. The final answer deals with the issue of whether the name “Jesus” has been translated correctly in the Scriptures.
